THE AMULET: “You protect me now” (MY TAKE ON THE AMULET) Sam: Here, take this.Dean: No, no. That’s for dad.Sam: Dad lied to me. I want you to have it.Dean: You sure?Sam: I’m sure.Dean: Thank you, Sam. I love it. Sam gives to Dean what was meant for John. This signifies that Dean has assumed the role of John (a parent) in Sam’s life. It means he is (and always will be) responsible for Sam, that Sam will look to him for guidance, and it’s his duty to protect Sam. Dean wears the amulet in acceptance of this role. He keeps it around his neck at all times to remind him of his duties to his brother and to reassure himself of his brother’s love. Dean: What, this?Castiel: May I borrow it?Dean: No.Castiel: Dean, give it to me.Dean: All right, I guess. Don’t lose it. Great. Now I feel naked. Dean reluctantly gives the amulet to Cas when Cas asks for it. This is symbolic of Dean’s hesitance to give up his role as the protector and allow himself to be vulnerable—to be the one protected (“You don’t think you deserve to be saved”). He entrusts Cas with the amulet, which connotes his acknowledgment that Cas is now the one responsible for him. Dean is willing to give everything and do anything for Sam, in the same way Cas is willing to give everything and do anything for Dean.

valjeans: All I want from the remainder of Supernatural season 6: Sam (re-soul-ified and overflowing with love for everyone) whips the amulet out of a deep dufflebag pocket He took it out of the bin at the end of Dark Side Of The Moon, intending to give it back to Dean when everything was all over Then, whoops, he went to Hell When he came back, soulless!Sam didn’t care enough about his brother or about a stupid, sentimental necklace, so he never returned it to Dean But now he has his soul back And his puppy self has returned full force And he gives it back to Dean They hug They cry The entire Supernatural fandom rejoices Is that too much to ask, Gamble Is it

    It makes NO SENSE! Dean thought the amulet was more important that GOD and there's no way Sam wouldn't have picked it up. It's the second most important object in the universe y'all. KRIPKE - WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME???

    exactly!!! dean threatened cas before he lent it to him and now just b/c it couldn't find god we're suppose to just think that now it means absolutely nothing to him?! srsly wtf?! 0_o

    oh c'mon im not buying it! maybe not in this season, but it will definitely come back sooner or later. I mean, if it won't, that wouldnt make any sense right? ......oh wait, after season 5 few things still make sense, shit.

    I am looking towards the 2 hour finale but I want the Samulet back ASAP! I agree I have enjoyed S 6 even thought it has been all over the place.
